Tooth Whitening
Everyday life takes its toll on our teeth. Drinking too much tea or coffee, smoking or even eating strongly coloured foods can stain and discolour them. There are toothpastes available which will help remove these stains, but they can’t change the actual colour of the tooth underneath.
The colour of your teeth is determined by your DNA, just like the colour of your hair or eyes. As we age, the dentine – the soft, pulpy substance below the enamel that protects the nerves and the blood supply to the tooth – changes colour, becoming more yellow. This is something which a stain-removing toothpaste alone cannot help.
Dentists can, though. By applying a bleaching agent to the teeth, they can whiten the teeth, giving you a sparkly white smile.
Orthodontic Dentistry
Here at Battersea Smiles, we can treat children and adults with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns.
Fixed metal braces are normally used to correct the alignment of children’s teeth. They work by moving the teeth into the required position over a period of time. Clear fixed braces are also available on a private treatment plan.
Adults also suffer from teeth that are crowded, gappy, protruding or overlapping and more are increasingly opting to take up orthodontic treatment. Again, fixed braces is one solution to aligning adult teeth. However, we do offer an alternative. Invisalign is a cosmetic brace system that straightens adult teeth using a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth. Worn daily over a period of time, it moves teeth into the correct position. Treatment can take as little as six months, depending on the complexity of each individual case.
CEREC Crown
Battersea Smiles are able to offer our patients the opportunity to have crowns and inlays made and fitted in a single appointment using the Sirona Cerec CAD / CAM equipment rather than having to send impressions to a dental laboratory. With CEREC at your dentist’s side, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all-ceramic crown, onlay, or veneer! For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care.
In House and Home Bleaching
In-House – It is totally safe, effective and conveniently fast, very fast! In just one hour your teeth will become dramatically whiter, and is ideal for anyone wanting immediate results. This whitening process is conducted by your dentist and is considered by many dentists as the safest cosmetic dental procedure available.
Home Bleaching – First of all, your dentist will give your mouth a check-up. Then an impression of your teeth will be taken, from which a plastic sleeve will be made to fit snugly and exactly around your teeth. The dentist will then show you how to put a small amount of the bleaching gel into the sleeve and then slide it over your teeth. Then you take the sleeve and the gel home and use it overnight until your teeth are the desired colour. You may find that your teeth are more sensitive for about 24 hours after each application, but this is only temporary.
It may be that bleaching isn’t suitable for you, especially if you have gum disease or crowns so please consult your dentist before embarking on home bleaching.
